What we see in Gilbert homes.

Gilbert grew from farmland into one of the country's largest towns in about twenty years, and its housing shows that timeline clearly: the bulk of the stock went up between the mid-1990s and mid-2010s. That era left a signature we work around constantly - arch-top windows over sliders and tubs, plant shelves in two-story foyers, and great rooms with transoms that builders never expected anyone to cover.

Communities tell the story in chapters: Val Vista Lakes' late-80s and 90s lake homes, Power Ranch and Seville's 2000s single- and two-stories, Morrison Ranch's white-fenced farmhouse streetscapes that practically ask for shutters, and Agritopia's porch-front architecture.

Most of what we're replacing here is original builder equipment reaching the end of its second decade - vertical blinds on the patio slider, 2-inch faux-wood blinds that have yellowed on west exposures, and the occasional first-generation vinyl shutter that's warped in the arch. The arches themselves are the recurring conversation: matching a shutter's rail lines across an arch-top window is where a Gilbert consultation usually starts.

Every project starts with the same honest choice: our worry-free Sanctuary composite or authentic Normandy wood - and a designer who helps you pick the right one for your windows, not the most expensive one.

From our Google reviews.

“We used Southwest Blinds and Shutters twice; once 6 years ago to install shutters and some sliding panels, and again last month to do shutters and roller shades in our new home. Our designer, Rob, was great to work with, and turned out coincidentally that he was an installer who installed the sliding panels at our old house. He didn't pressure us at all and gave us good pointers on what may or may not work in our home. We're very happy with the way that things turned out. Wyatt, Zach, Josh, and Todd did a great job installing everything. The windows at our house aren't square, but they got everything installed and filled in so you wouldn't be able to tell. They cleaned up afterwards and were all really professional. As far as timelines go, it took about 3 and a half months to go from signing the paperwork to installation. Prices were competitive with another quote that we got. Highly recommended!”

Gilbert plantation shutter questions, answered

The questions homeowners here usually ask before choosing shutters.

What shutter style works best in Gilbert homes?

Gilbert living happens around big, bright family spaces, so most homeowners here choose a white or off-white poly shutter with a clean frame, hidden tilt, and 3.5" or 4.5" louvers. That combination controls the afternoon sun in a great room without making the windows feel busy, and it fits everything from Morrison Ranch farmhouse to Seville contemporary.

Are plantation shutters worth it for a family home with kids?

Yes - this is where shutters earn their keep. There are no cords, no fabric to stain, and no flimsy vanes to snap. Our Sanctuary poly shutters are dent-resistant, easy to wipe clean, and covered by our Everything's Covered Guarantee, which even includes accidental pet damage.

Should I choose wood or poly shutters in Gilbert?

If you want a stained, furniture-like finish, wood is the right direction. If you want white or off-white shutters - which is what most Gilbert homeowners choose - a quality poly shutter is more durable, easier to clean, and better suited to busy family rooms. We bring both to your consultation and walk you through the differences honestly.

Can you cover the big sliding door off our kitchen or great room?

Yes. Wide patio sliders are one of the most common projects in Gilbert. Depending on how you use the door, we'll design a bypass or bi-fold shutter system on a clean track, so the door still works the way your family actually uses it.
